What is the closest major airport to Grand Teton National Park?  Jackson Hole Airport is the closest airport to Grand Teton National Park. In fact, the airport is INSIDE the national park, making it the only commercial airport inside a national park in the United States.  It’s hard to get closer than that! 

However, while it is generally considered the best airport for Grand Teton National Park, it isn’t the only option and may in fact not be the best choice for your particular trip.

Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA)

Idaho Falls Regional Airport is one of the larger regional airports with a reasonable selection of flights and several airlines and car rental agencies.  It’s also closer to the national park (and Jackson, where most accommodation is) than most of the airports listed here.

Central Wyoming Regional Airport is a small airport, but it’s the closest airport to the northern section of Grand Teton National Park other than Jackson Hole Airport.

(West) Yellowstone Airport (WYS)

(West) Yellowstone Airport is a small airport just outside West Yellowstone, which is just outside the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.  Flying there makes sense if you’re going to visit Yellowstone as well as Grand Teton.

Yellowstone Regional Airport is located in Cody, a quintessential Wild West town.  Stop over and visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and Old Trail Town to live out your Western movie fantasies.  Then head over to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

How to Decide What’s The Best Grand Teton National Park Airport 

Where to fly into for Grand Teton will depend on the specifics of your trip.  Some things to consider are: 

Where else are you planning to go on your trip?
Are you also visiting Yellowstone National ParkGlacier National ParkRocky Mountain National Park?  Some airports are more convenient to those other parks or provide easy access to them. 

When are you going?
For some airports, the shortest route to Grand Teton is through Yellowstone National Park on roads that are closed in winter.  Also, some flights are only offered in the high season.  

Where are you staying when visiting Grand Teton?
Choosing an airport near your lodging or campground may make the most sense. 

How much time do you have?
Your travel time from the airport will be more important if you have less time available for your trip.

What’s your budget?
Flight and/ or car rental prices can vary quite a bit between airports.
